Australia is out of the World Cup.
TIM Cahill and Brett Holman scored magnificent goals to drive Australia to a 2-1 win against Serbia – but the Socceroos have been eliminated from the World Cup on goal difference.
I, and many other people with more expertise in the world game than I have, blame Pim Verbeek’s stupid strategy in the 4-0 loss to Germany that was our first game for being unceremoniously dumped in at the first round.
Like most Australians I will now be watching with breath held to see if New Zealand can make it through to the next stage. Only a win tonight can allow them to do this but they have been playing above themselves throughout so here’s hoping that this can happen.
As for the overall winner, I am sticking with my overall predictions of either England or Argentina taking out the Cup.

Tennis and Elections
It has been an interesting 24 hours.
Australia has a new PM. Personally, I did see this happening- I had a bet with a mate that Julia Gillard would roll Kevin Rudd before the election- but I didn’t expect it to happen so quickly. Betting was suspended for a time but it has been reopened.
The ALP is still a short priced favourite but I still do see this market closing considerably.

With tennis, we have seen a record breaking match overnight and it hasn’t ended yet.
AMERICAN John Isner and Frenchman Nicholas Mahut are deadlocked at Wimbledon in the most incredible, historic and record-breaking match in tennis history.
The first-round match on Court 18 resumed today at two sets all as the second match behind Alicia Molik and Greta Arn.??When play was suspended for the day, the match was tied at 4-6 6-3 7-6 (7-3) 6-7 (3-7) 59-59 after a battle which had ebbed and flowed for exactly 10 hours.
It will be starting again later tonight and it will be interesting to see what happens.
AFL- Second half of the split round
There are three games this week to finish the split round.
St Kilda v Geelong
This is the big one and it is being streamed live in to Melbourne on the television. Geelong is by far and away the form side of the competition and they should romp it in here. St Kilda has had their share of off-field drama this week and this can’t help. Geelong will win by 5 goals.
Sydney v Collingwood
Collingwood win.
Adelaide v Melbourne
Melbourne has had their ups and downs but Adelaide looks like being a wooden spoon team. Melbourne win in a close one.

ESSENDON is set to recall one of its best defenders for Friday night’s crunch game against Hawthorn at the MCG.
Cale Hooker has completed rehabilitation from a hamstring tear received in round eight and coach Matthew Knights said the Hawks’ big forwards ensured he would come straight back into the side for a rendezvous with Lance Franklin or Jarryd Roughead.
Essendon beat them in Round 6 and since then the bombers are 3 and 3, 3 wins and 3 losses. Hawthorn, on the other hand, have won their last 5. They’ve really found some form after a relatively dismal start to the year.
In early betting Hawthorn is the $1.55 favourite but I do think that Hooker’s return is a great asset for the bombers and $2.45 seems to be value to me at this stage. I think this gap will only close coming up to Friday’s game.

AFL Betting
Any AFL Betting strategy would have been thrown out the window this weekend with North Melbourne winning. I know a lot of punters had the Blues as their anchor bet but the Kangaroos were just too strong. Hawthorn, Geelong, Richmond and the Bulldogs were all expected to win. The Melbourne- Collingwood draw was a great game that Collingwood was expected to win. Melbourne is dazzling other teams this year and it looks like they could be fighting for a finals spot in the next couple of years.
Horse Racing
Black Pirahna wowed them in the Stradbroke winning it for the second year in a row. Pressday is a horse to watch after taking out the T.J. Smith at Eagle Farm and Dariana destroyed his opponents in the Queensland Derby.
World Cup 2010
I got up at 4:30am this morning to watch Australia get embarrassed against Germany in the World Cup with a 4-0 loss and Tim Cahill being sent off with a red card.
Ghana beat Serbia 1-0 after a penalty and England’s goalkeeper Robert Green can lay claim to the most embarrassing moment of the world cup when he fumbled the ball allowing USA a 1-1 draw.
Coming up tonight you need to get on Holland and Cameroon. That is where the money here.

Formula 1 Grand Prix
Lewis Hamilton won the Canadian Grand Prix for the second time in four years overnight, holding off McLaren teammate Jenson Button at Circuit Gilles Villeneuve to take the season points lead from Mark Webber.

I don’t know but he certainly cost me a lot of money.
Britain’s Sunday newspapers blasted Robert Green for the goalkeeping blunder that cost England a victory in the opening World Cup game against the United States.
The weekly press printed frame-by-frame images of Green’s error, with the front pages of the News of the World and the Sunday Mirror both reading “Hand of Clod”, accompanied by a giant picture of Green.
Any England goalkeeper guilty of a clanger is given merciless treatment by the national newspapers, with international careers usually then brought to a shuddering halt.

South Africa v Mexico.
South Africa will be on a high being the host nation and playing in the first game. Clearly they are going to come out hard but their performance on the world stage recently hasn’t been too promising.
Mexico themselves have been through some turbulent times and are on their third coach from recent times. Having said that Mexico are used to being on this stage so have more chance of ongoing success.
My bet for this game will be South Africa in a Draw- No Bet situation. I think they’ll be able to hold Mexico to at least a draw because of the home ground advantage and if either team comes out in front it will be South Africa.

Uruguay v France
France will win this game. Enough said.

It was great to see Richmond win and Jack Riewoldt is going to be a superstar. I hope that Richmond can find some more wins or they may lose him to another club.

Hot Danish wins the Doomben 10000.
